Dialysis

Patients with renal failure undergo periodic dialysis to eliminate endogenous waste products that accumulate in the body. The most common types are the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

The dialysis process involves equilibrating the blood or body fluid with the dialysis fluid. The waste products are transferred from the body fluid to the dialysis fluid. Drugs may/may not be eliminated form the body during the dialysis process depending on the drug properties.

dialysis

This drug is not significantly
eliminated from the body during
the dialysis process. Examples :
digoxin, oxacillin and nifedipine

dialysis

This drug is significantly
eliminated from the body during
the dialysis process. Examples :

Replacement doses of the drugs that are significantly eliminated from the body during the dialysis process will need to be administered after the end of each dialysis session.
