The Steady State

After a single iv administration, the drug is eliminated from the body.

If drug administration is repeated before the previous dose is eliminated completely, the drug will accumulate and the amount of the drug in the body will increase.

Steady State

When the drug elimination process follows first-order kinetics, the rate of drug elimination increases as the amount of the drug in the body increases. This is because the rate of drug elimination is proportional to the amount of the drug in the body.

When the rate of drug elimination becomes equal to the rate of drug administration, the steady state is achieved.
