Factors Affecting the Urinary Excretion of Drugs (Cont'd)

c- Renal clearance

Examine the urinary excretion rate of drugs that have different CLR, if the dose and CLT are constant.

Parameters
Dose (mg) CLΤ(L/hr) CLR(L/hr)
400 8 8
CLR (L/hr)

The rate of decline of the renal excretion rate versus time does not change since CLT is constant. Lower CLR makes smaller amount of the drug excreted in urine. (CLR/CLT ratio is smaller)

Parameters
Dose (mg) CLΤ(L/hr) CLR(L/hr)
600 8 8
CLR (L/hr)

The fraction of the dose excreted in urine is determined from the ratio of CLR/CLT. After administration of the same dose, the amount of drug excreted in urine will be smaller when this ratio gets smaller.
