Constant rate IV infusion

The plasma concentration of a drug that follows two-compartment model during a constant rate iv infusion increases gradually until it reaches the steady state.

Steady State

At steady state the rate of drug administration is equal to the rate of drug elimination.

Termination of the iv infusion results in a biexponential decline in the plasma concentration. The post-infusion plasma profile consists of a rapid distribution phase followed by an elimination phase.
